Tigard Library Hosts Poetry Reading To Celebrate William Stafford

The Tigard Public Library and Friends of William Stafford will sponsor a poetry reading in celebration of the late Oregon poet’s birthday on Saturday, Jan. 7, from 2 to 4 p.m. in the Community Room.  Poets Leah Stenson and Sue Einowski will introduce several Oregon poets who will read from Stafford’s extensive body of work as well as their own pieces inspired by him.

William Stafford was a prolific poet.  His first collection of poems, “Traveling Through Darkness,” won the National Book Award in 1963.  He was named poet laureate both nationally and in Oregon.

The poets who will give the readings will also briefly discuss the craft of poetry-writing. They will include John Morrison, Leanne Grabel, Steve Sandler and Tim Barnes.

This free program honors the impact of Stafford’s work on the poetry community in the Pacific Northwest.  The Tigard Public Library is located at
13500 SW Hall Blvd.
No registration is required.  For more information, please call the library at 503-684-6537 and request the Adult Reference Desk or visit the library’s web page at:  http://www.tigard-or-gove/library/default.asp
